Enough With the Politics Already!

Since journalists can't stop wringing their hands over a "government shutdown" there are people who actually think this sort of thing matters. At first it was cute to see apolitical people suddenly have opinions but it got old really fast.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: political opinions are a character flaw. It's entirely natural to have one. As gregarious mammals, we are predisposed to have them. But just because it's natural doesn't make it good and certainly doesn't make it healthy to share with other people.

Because the United States government is a political procedure (rather than a civilized one), it's also common for people to conflate their politics and their views on policy. This is an even greater character flaw than simply having a political opinion.
